Composting Stations

Swampscott has contracted with Black Earth Compost to provide residents with two free locations to drop-off food waste and organics for composting. This initiative is part of Swampscott's Waste Reduction Program that assists residents with taking advantage of alternative ways to dispose of solid waste.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

  • Residents must pre-register in order to obtain the code to the locked bins to dispose of waste for composting. (Register HERE)
  • In order to register, you must be able to answer questions about how to properly compost. For more information about what can and cannot be composted, view Black Earth's Guide
  • Only residents are allowed to dispose of waste in Swampscott's compost bins
  • Compost must be disposed of in paper bags or certified composting bags
  • Do not dispose of any yard waste in compost bins - Swampscott offers separate Yard Waste Pick-up days (Learn more HERE)
  • These locations are closely monitored, do not leave any trash or recycling at these sites
