The Swampscott Planning Board is excited to announce the launch of a comprehensive update to the current Master Plan, “Swampscott 2025 – The Master Plan”. To ensure a well-rounded and inclusive process, we are seeking dedicated volunteers from the community to join the Master Plan Update Committee.

The Swampscott Master Plan serves as a 10-year visionary blueprint for the development and growth of our community. It outlines goals, strategies, and policies to guide decision-making on issues such as land use, housing, transportation, economic development, sustainability, and more. By participating in this update process, volunteers will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our town.

We are looking for individuals who did not serve on the 2015 Master Plan Committee and are passionate about the community and possess diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Whether you are a long-time resident, a business owner, a student, or a professional working in any field, your unique insights and ideas are invaluable to creating a comprehensive and inclusive Master Plan.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to collaborate with town officials, professional consultants from MAPC, and fellow community members. This commitment will involve attending regular monthly meetings, participating in workshops and public forums, reviewing and providing feedback on draft documents, and contributing to the overall development of the updated Master Plan.

By joining the Master Plan Update Committee, volunteers will:

  • Help shape the future of Swampscott
  • Collaborate with community members and town officials
  • Gain valuable experience in urban planning and community development
  • Contribute to the long-term sustainability and growth of the town
  • Make a lasting impact on the quality of life for current and future residents

No prior experience in urban planning is required. We welcome individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives, as it is essential to capture a wide range of community interests and needs. Volunteers should be able to commit approximately one or two evenings per month over the course of the next twelve months. We anticipate commencing the process in January 2024.

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer for the Swampscott Master Plan Update Committee, please submit a letter of interest to Marzie Galazka, Director of Community and Economic Development, Swampscott Town Hall, 22 Monument Ave or via email at mgalazka@swampscottma.gov. The letters of interests are due by August 1, 2023.

For any questions or additional information, please contact Marzie Galazka at 781-596-8828 x1251 or at mgalazka@swampscottma.gov.

Together, let's build a vibrant and sustainable future for Swampscott!
