Swampscott Library Open as Cooling Center on 8/12 and 8/13
Posted on: August 11, 2021 - 1:48pm
Due to high temperatures this week, the Town of Swampscott will open the Swampscott Public Library as a cooling center on Thursday, August 12 from 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, and Friday, August 13 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. This location will be open to all residents and will have air conditioning and water available.
Please keep these following heat safety tips in mind:
- Avoid strenuous activity;, cover your head with a hat wide enough to protect your face; and wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
- Complete outdoor activities in the early morning or wait until the evening
- Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
- NEVER leave people or pets in a parked car. Leaving a window open is not enough- temperatures inside the car can rise almost 20 degrees Fahrenheit within the first 10 minutes, even with a window cracked open.
- Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Read the CDC’s list of heat-related illness warning signs on their website.
- Check on your friends and neighbors to make sure they are staying safe.
If you have questions, please contact the Town of Swampscott at (781) 596-8850. As always, call 911 if you are experiencing an emergency.
