Unpacking Racism Forum #2

Event Date:
Thursday, June 3, 2021 - 6:30pm

This virtual community forum builds on conversations and concepts from the first Unpacking Racism discussion in December, 2020. Attendees will continue to explore the social constructs of race and racism – specifically your racial identity and the characteristics of white supremacy culture. You will explore how you as an individual and a member of this community can actively support the Town of Swampscott’s commitment to becoming a welcoming community for all.  This discussion will be led by Swampscott’s DEI Critical Partner Tamy-Feé Meneide, who has been facilitating the Town’s antiracism initiatives.

Attendance at the 2020 forum not necessary to attend this event.

To help frame this dialogue, we invite you to read the following:

  • Chapter 1 of "The Racial Healing Handbook" by Anneliese A. Singh
    • Available for borrowing from the Swampscott Public Library
    • Excerpt from the first chapter available on Amazon (Click on the thumbnail of the book to open the excerpt)
    • As this is a workbook, consider purchasing your own copy!
  • Characteristics of a White Supremacy Culture article by Tema Okun
