Yard Waste, Metals, and Dogs

Metal Drop-Off Event

On Saturday July 30th from 8am – noon, metal items can be dropped off at the DPW yard located at 200 Paradise Road. There is no cost to drop off metal. Acceptable items include any non-hazardous material made of metal including appliances, water heaters, scrap metal, microwaves, exercise equipment (if mostly metal), file cabinets, bicycles, and engines (if the liquids are removed).  Metal drop-off events will occur on the last Saturday of each month through December.

Please note this is not an electronics or hazardous waste drop-off.

Also during the metal drop-offs, we allow curbside residents to drop off bagged white Styrofoam they may have received from shipped (or purchased) product boxes. We understand this material can take up space in your barrel. Please note the Styrofoam material is not recycled.

Yard Waste Curbside Collection

During the week of July 25th, yard waste may be disposed of for pickup in paper bags or barrels labeled as "Yard Waste."

Acceptable yard waste includes: grass, leaves, and tree/brush trimmings up to 1" thick.

Non-acceptable yard waste includes: soil, stumps, rocks, mulch, and trimmings more than 1" thick.

Yard waste collection will occur on your regular trash day. A specific truck for yard waste will collect these.

The collection truck will not collect waste if it is in a driveway or on the edge of the lawn. Yard waste needs to be on the sidewalk or in front of the property if there is no sidewalk.

Yard waste placed in plastic bags will not be collected.

Dog Owners

A reminder for dog owners that the public beaches in Swampscott are off-limits to dogs from May 20th through October 1st every year. This is per the Town's bylaw dating back to 1992. We appreciate you following these regulations during the restricted time period.
