Swampscott Historic Landmarks

Elihu Thomson House

Swampscott's town history includes historic landmarks, buildings and spaces around town. Some of our most relevant buildings and landmarks residents see every day, and others have stories remaining to be shared.

The interpretive signage program seeks to identify these places with descriptive signs for residents and visitors to learn more about the stories behind them.

The historic signs are being offered and funded by the Swampscott Historical Commission and the Swampscott Community Development Department, who received a $2000 grant from Essex National Heritage Commission. Funds from the grant have contributed to design costs, while the Historical Commission is funding the remaining costs, including the signs themselves, with stands.

There are initially 4 signs posted around town. Each has description of the landmark and a QR code which can be scanned by a mobile device, linking to town pages with further story details. You can also view the details at the links below.

The Historical Commission will be exploring other locations, and hoping to introduce additional signs as funds are identified.

Enjoy learning about Swampscott's historic places, and take a walk about town!
